CPSG’s Development Path mentorship program builds on the training courses, providing expert support for selected individuals in the design and facilitation of species conservation planning workshops and related processes. Mentees learn through doing, designing and running their own workshops with mentor input. Mentoring continues until mentees achieve levels of competence and confidence at which they can lead on the design and facilitation of planning processes themselves.

Success with Training and Mentoring

In 2018, Dr. Lucy Kemp, Co-Chair of the IUCN SSC Hornbill Specialist Group, joined CPSG’s mentorship program, known as the Planning Development Path. After completing one of CPSG’s online courses, Lucy applied her skills to a succession of planning events, taking on increasing levels of responsibility. In 2019, she led the design and facilitation of a number of planning workshops resulting in new conservation plans, including that for the Southern ground hornbill in Zimbabwe.
