The 2024 CPSG Annual Meeting is graciously hosted by Taronga Conservation Society Australia.

The CPSG Annual Meeting is a working meeting with an informal and highly interactive atmosphere. Through plenary presentations and working group sessions, participants will learn about, discuss, and find ways forward on issues of great importance to the conservation community. Participation in the CPSG Annual Meeting is open to anyone interested in species conservation, the work of CPSG, and the topics being discussed. The draft list of working groups currently includes:

(NEW!) Regional biobanking initiatives – Updates on and discussion of biobanking efforts in Australasia and Southeast Asia with an aim to foster communication and development of regional capacity.

CPSG Australasia 2.0 – Welcome CPSG Australasia's new Convenor; learn about and inform the bright future of the CPSG Australasia Regional Resource Center. 

CPSG training and mentoring for AZA SAFE program leaders:A model for building capacity in other regions – Learn about CPSG's regional initiative to develop capacity for collaborative species conservation planning within AZA institutions, and explore the value of replicating such an initiative in other regions.

Developing a CPSG training course and video on managing conflict within species conservation planning workshops – Help further develop a CPSG training course and materials on managing interpersonal conflicts within species conservation planning workshops.

Fostering inclusivity in conservation planning – Identify which components of Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, Inclusion, Justice, Belonging (DEAIJB) concepts/elements are most relevant to CPSG and its growing network of planning practitioners.

The potential for CPSG of the IUCN’s Global Species Action Plan (GSAP) Online Knowledge Platform – This working group will consider the CPSG Tools Library and the GSAP Platform and how to maximize synergy between them. 

Designing a PVA training courseHelp further develop a CPSG training course and materials on conducting a population viability analysis to evaluate the risk of wildlife population decline or extinction.

Single-species conservation planning and genetic healthA discussion and brainstorming around single-species conservation planning and genetic health.

Integrating population, health, and environment (PHE) into species conservation planningAn introduction to PHE - an approach aimed at creating healthier communities and ecosystems by integrating family planning and health with conservation efforts - and incorporating it into conservation planning.
